Agree or Disagree: Restaurants should get exemptions from minimum wages.

We have had many discussions about this.

Some of you love the idea of raising the minimum wage.

Some of you do not.

The current minimum wage is $10.20, which is one of the lowest in Canada. However, the restaurant industry is anticipating some concerns with the coming raises. As such, they want an exemption from the minimum wage.

In the story below, this is a quote from Mark von Schellwitz, who is a Restaurants Canada  spokesman, is quoted as saying this;

We have certainly heard from a number of our members over the last few weeks who are extremely concerned about surviving this increase, especially in an economic climate where they are already seeing their sales decline because of the downturn,” he said Wednesday.

“We are asking them (the NDP government) to adjust that promise and let’s take this one step at a time, one year at a time.

You can read the story here.

What the restaurants industry is looking for is the option to pay a servers who earn tips and young people who are in their first jobs less.

As a little fun fact here is the minimum wage across Canada.

Do you Agree or Disagree that the restaurant industry should get an exemption from minimum wages?

Agree or Disagree: Raising Minimum Wage will hurt businesses.

First of all, this is not a write up to claim the NDP is immediately raising the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour. I understand that every intent is raise minimum wage  in increments.

However, the discussion is still an important topic. Because, the plan is to raise minimum wage.

So, for this, I would like to give two different perspectives.

First, one that has some concerns of raising minimum wage for businesses. You can read that here.

Second, one that is supportive of raising minima wages. This is from Seattle, where they raised minimum wage to $15 an hour. You can read that link here.

Do you Agree or Disagree that raising minimum wage will hurt businesses?

Warning: This post will piss you off. But I’m going to say to anyway.

So, this post is going to piss some people off. But, I’m going to say it anyway.

I’d like to talk about Corporate Tax debate for a moment. Not whether or not there should be an increase in them. But, the debate around them

First, let me start off by saying this. I believe that we should improve the dispensation from rich and poor. We need to improve heath care, education and seniors care. I want to be in a community that supports each other not knock each other down. I want a community that treats everyone equally and fairly. There have been corporations and companies have taken advantage of people and the land. And some of the middle class are facing the brunt of that.

However, what has been lost in this debate is the amount of support many corporations give and invest in the community. Here are three of many examples for you.

Corporate Challenge: 180+ Companies, 1,500 volunteers, over 20,000 athletes. They have raised over 7.3 million for local Calgary Charities.

MotionBall: Involved in 12 Canadian cities. Individuals, partners, and organizations supporting Special Olympics. They have raised over $5, 000,00 to support and educate. I volunteered last year and it’s a great event.

Kids Up Front Calgary: Many large and corporations donate tickets for kids to events: Be it Flames Games or theatre, or other events. Below will be an alphabetical list of donors.

There was a conversation started last night about Ashif Mawji. Do you know what he has done for the Stollery Hospital? He sold his company so he can spend more time helping not only the Stollery Hospital, but the Kids Kottage Foundation.

Well, you know why they do it you say? They do it for marketing! They do it to get noticed! They don’t “care”.

That’s pretty presumptuous of you to think that.

You don’t know the personal impact certain organizations have had on someone’s personal life. Be it themselves, family members, or friends. Many successful people believe strongly that they should give back. You also don’t know the time and effort that people give IN SECRET to many organizations Not just here, but around the world. You don’t know the amount of time they mentor others. I know many entrepreneurs who do it all the time.

And, by the way, it’s none of your business.

Pissed off yet? Good. You are about to be pissed off more.

Before you assume that you know a company or individuals can afford a “simple and fair” 2% tax increase, you might want to have a look at companies around Alberta. Not just the oil sector, but other companies that have laid off people. You might want to ask some of the unemployed how easy it is to find a job. You might want to ask small business owners how they are doing. You might want to ask people currently working and concerned if they will still have a job. Times are not easy right now. That simple 2% add up. And up. And up.

It’s easy to scream platitudes on how those “rich successful corporations” and those “rich successful people” need to give more because “they can afford it”. It’s tougher to remember the time people have taken to get where they are.

Because it seems to me that generosity and success is being mocked and ridiculed.

So, before you assume these “fat cats” are “greedy and selfish” , take some time to look into the actual contributions they already give into the community. Because some of the richest and most successful people in the world happen to be some of the most generous.

Pissed off? Good. Suck it up. You needed to hear it.

Note: Not endorsing a party. Just giving a perspective here.

Here’s that Kids Up Front list.

If you are an NDP supporter this picture should bother you. Here’s why.

If you are an NDP Supporter, this picture should bother you.

Why?

1) It shows many that the NDP has a real lack of knowledge of economy. Harper had nothing to do with the failings of Target. As has been discussed by many, the reason Target is closing is Target.

2) Target is an American company that you expressed concern coming into Canada.

3) Your position is to treat workers fairly. What is interesting is while you are talking about the employees of Target, there have been thousands of people laid off from oil companies that you have said NOTHING about.

The perception is this. While you think you are coming across as standing for”little person” and “equal rights” it would seem to me that you are standing up for the “trendy”. Causes that is what you think you will get attention for.

This picture backfired. Big Time.

It reminded many why they do not want you anywhere near from governing.

That should bother you.

Agree or Disagree: Justin Trudeau is fit to be the PM of Canada

Agree or Disagree: Justin Trudeau is fit to be the PM of Canada

The above article/video is from Sun News.

It is discussing of how Justin Trudeau made, quite frankly, a rather flippant and offensive remark about the very tragic events that have been happening in the Ukraine.

If you missed it, Trudeau made a joke about how Russia was a threat to Ukraine because “they lost a hockey game”. This was after there was a tragic event that lost over 20 lives. Below is the video.

This has led to some serious questions about the ability of Trudeau to be the Prime Minister of Canada. Now, before you simply argue that this article is from a Conservative perspective, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair was upset on Monday saying that ” “You don’t make jokes about people lying dead on the streets of their capital.”

So, what do you think?  Does this incident prove or disprove Justin Trudeau can be the Prime Minister of Canada?
