I have just returned from a week from Toronto.
I saw lots of different things. The Toronto Blue Jays, The Toronto FC, The Hockey Hall of Fame, Wayne Gretzky’s and more! I ate lots of different foods as well. Overall, a good trip.
i had two main ways of transportation. One was walking. The other was Transit. Quite frankly, I was surprised at how slow it was. There are buses and subways, but it takes a long time to get anywhere. It’s not only slow, it’s expensive. If you live in a suburb like Burlington or Hamilton and you want to transfer into Toronto, you would use the GO service. You have to pay to use the GO Service AND you have to pay to use the TTC.
In the current Mayoral election in Toronto, public transit is a major issue. Everyone has different ideas. One idea that even came up during the Ontario Provincial Election has been privatizing the transit system. It’s something that happens in some places in the States and around the world.
One of The Pro’s-It creates competition which will naturally provide better service.
One of the Con’s-It can cause confusion for riders. Companies would not necessarily provide their competitors transit information.
What are your thoughts? Would you support a privatized Public Transit System?
