As an author, I know that there is some competition for your “voice:.
For example, I know a blog in Calgary called http://www.calgaryisawesome.com that is getting 17,000 visitors a month. I’m not. That would be nice, but I’m not.
Now, there are many reasons why you read a blog or a book or a story. But basically, it is about quality. The better and the more popular you are, the more work you get. Particularly if you desire to review. Many companies and organizations are looking for bloggers to promote their product. And they are willing to pay you!
However, just for a moment think about the flip side of this.
Let’s say a guy like… maybe me for example would come to you with an idea. I would review your product and instead of asking you to pay me, I would pay you to do the review.
Would you do that?
Some would say great idea! However, there are many that considers this unethical.
Above there is a link from an author named Rachel Thompson who is @RachelintheOC and @BadRedheadMedia on Twitter. She gives a pretty detailed perspective.
What do you think? Is an author paying for a review unethical?
