Agree or Disagree: If someone asks you for forgiveness, you should always forgive

I stumbled upon a news story today, that you might be familiar with. It’s the story of Ronald Smith. He is facing the death penalty for murdering two people. He has been in prison for 30 years and has pleaded for his life. He has asked for mercy. Here’s the story.

I also remember a reading a friends Facebook status a few years ago. She was mentioning that she had a tough time forgiving her father for some very difficult things he did. A few people said that because she was a Christian, she should forgive him.  If she didn’t, she was dishonouring God.

You may have seen this quote from Gandhi. “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

Or what Jesus said: “But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

What do you think? Is it fair and/or healthy to forgive?
